Just one more week of Year 9 and Key Stage 3 to go! And one last section of Fahrenheit 451. We hope you’re enjoying it. Let’s get cracking!
Here’s your work for the week beginning 13th July:
2) Write
a title: A Phoenix from the Ashes.
3) Read Fahrenheit
451 from page 113 (‘He
was three hundred yards downstream…’) to
the end of the book.
You can
read/download the text here. There is an audiobook that you can
listen along with here (skip to 2 hr 40 min 34 sec). Or this one (4 hr 34 min 33
sec). (Apologies: I put the wrong
timings on last week; these are correct, I promise!)
4) Fill
in this book report form to give us your responses to the ending and to the book as
a whole.
6)
Answer these questions in your book:
- List four things you have learnt about the phoenix.
- What is the significance of the phoenix allusion in Fahrenheit 451?
- What do you make of the ending of the book?
- What messages do you think Bradbury wants us to take away from Fahrenheit 451?
Optional tasks:
8) You can watch the 1966 film version of Fahrenheit 451 here.
9) No quiz next week, but you can test your knowledge of the
text by having a go at these quizzes on Sparknotes:
That’s it! We’re done with dystopia and with Year 9. But don’t
despair: if you’re feeling lost without all that reading to do, why not join in
our Summer Reading Challenge?
We hope you have a fantastic summer and look forward to
seeing you all in September.
Stay safe!
