Y9: Dystopia | Fahrenheit 451 (Week 6)

Hello again Year 9,

We hope you had a good half-term and enjoyed the sun.

This week, we’re going to get started on our final dystopian text of the year, Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. This novel, first published in 1953, is considered one of the classics of the dystopian genre.

Here’s your work for the week beginning 1st June:

2) Write a title: Fahrenheit 451: Context. Make a page of notes based on the following two resources:

     a) this document about the background to the novel
     b) this video: Why you should readFahrenheit 451

3) Read pages 1-21 of Fahrenheit 451 (stop at ‘…opened his mouth…’ near the bottom of the page). You can read/download the text here. There is an audiobook that you can listen along with at the bottom of this page or, alternatively, here.

Next week, there will be a quiz on the context and opening section of the book, we’ll get you thinking about the characters we’ve met, and we’ll move
