This week,
we’re going to get started on our final dystopian text of the year, Ray
Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. This novel, first published in 1953, is considered one of the
classics of the dystopian genre.
Here’s your work for the week beginning 1st June:
1) Do this dystopian recap quiz.
2) Write a title: Fahrenheit
451: Context. Make a page of notes based on the following two
resources:
a) this document
about the background to the novel
b) this video: Why you should readFahrenheit 451
3) Read pages 1-21 of Fahrenheit 451 (stop at ‘…opened his mouth…’ near the bottom of
the page). You can read/download the text here. There is an audiobook that you can listen along with at the bottom of this page or,
alternatively, here.
Optional tasks
These tasks are completely optional and are just to help reinforce the
plot and characters in your memory. Take your pick:
Either
Make notes about the characters of Montag, Mildred and Clarisse. How has
Bradbury designed them to contrast with each other?

Answer these ‘keeping
track’ questions as you read:
